Reflection on the Impact of Support from David Riddell Memorial CIO:

'We would like to express our sincere gratitude to the David Riddell Memorial CIO Foundation for sponsoring our Men’s Space programme. Their generous support enabled us to create and sustain a psychologically safe environment specifically designed for Black men to openly discuss their health, wellbeing and personal development.

Through their sponsorship, we were able to secure a suitable venue and provide food during each session. This was more significant than it may appear. Having a consistent, welcoming space with shared meals helped foster trust, belonging and openness. It allowed the men to settle, feel valued and engage in meaningful, person centred talking therapy sessions.

Men’s Space became a powerful platform for between 15 and 22 men to explore themes such as resilience, emotional regulation, identity, fatherhood and mental wellbeing. Many of the men expressed that this was the first time they had felt truly heard without judgement. The environment encouraged vulnerability, honesty and mutual accountability.

The sessions strengthened peer relationships and created a sense of brotherhood. Participants reported improved confidence, increased emotional awareness and practical strategies to manage stress and life pressures. The safe space also reduced isolation and reinforced the importance of seeking support rather than suffering in silence.

The journey with the David Riddell Memorial CIO Foundation has been a positive and impactful one. Their investment has directly contributed to improved mental wellbeing and resilience within our community. We are deeply thankful for their belief in our work and their commitment to supporting the health and wellbeing of Black men.
